today was one of those ideal days - the way you hope your holidays and weekends to go, everything was just easy. we started our valentines day with family snuggles in bed, then opened presents from grandparents and built a fire to keep us toasty.
the day moved smoothly from one part to the next - food, toys all the while keeping warm by the fire. we had planned on making a big valentines day dinner like we always do, but decided last minute to invite our good friends the mckestens over to join us.
the six of us drank, ate, and laughed at our ridiculous toddlers who were high on chocolate giggling hysterically tackling each other.
so much love today.
happy valentines day friends.

my sister, melissa, is one of the kindest most gracious people i know.
she gives everything she's got to being an amazing teacher, and then finds a little more to give and comes home each night to be the most loving and caring mother to her two daughters.
she's always there to support her friends and family - not only answering my random texts about how to (insert anything child related here) any day of the week, but making tutus and costumes and presents and listening to us all complain with a sympathetic ear.
melissa works so hard all the time, i decided to buy her a round trip ticket to bring the girls out to new jersey for a week this summer. we're going to have the most amazing time, and i can't wait to have them all here together.
happy birthday melissa.
you truly are an inspiration.

last week i stumbled upon the old listing photos for our house, and realized i never did before and after shots. we did so much work to the place (really, see the big old list here) i thought it would be fun to see the juxtaposition with very similar shots.
so last weekend while chris and hazel were napping i went through the house quickly re-taking the original shots. pretty cool to see the difference - although i had no idea how many things we put in the same place as the old owners!
sure there's still more work to be done, but it's one of those marathon situations. even more before and after photos here on my flickr
