ONE MONTH OF BURBLIFE

brooklyn
somehow it's already been a month since we moved from brooklyn to the burbs and the transition has been WAY easier than i thought it would be. that probably has something to do with our weeks being jam packed with visitors, errands, and settling in, but it really does feel good.

it's nice after being so scared of such a big change to feel so comfortable this quickly.

MORE ON WELLESLEY ROAD: THE SUNROOM

back to new home stuff, since it's consumed so much of my last three months.

the room that really fell into place first (and gets destroyed each day and put together again each night) is the sunroom. we're using the extra space as a play area for hazel so she can have toys downstairs but they don't have to be in the living room. this is a huge improvement from our apartment where our living room was transformed into hazels playspace every. single. day.

this little room has quickly become one of our favorite areas in the house. sure the brown carpet is awful, but it can be replaced down the line.

the room has such amazing light and it's so cozy to sit together curled up in the papasan reading. and the separation between kid stuff and the living room makes a huge difference. it's everything we wanted it to be!

MELLO JELLO

Watermelon Jello Shots
two weekends ago we celebrated nina's last few weeks of being a "miss" before becoming a "mrs" (more on that soon), and i made watermelon jello shots for the occasion. i've made orange slices in the past  so i thought i'd give the watermelon a go.

long story short, they turned out so great!

after the jello was set i cut them into wedges and it was a big hit. one piece of advice if you try this is to add extra gelatin to the jello/vodka mix to make them extra firm. it really does help when slicing the wedges.

TIME OUT TO CAMP OUT

during all this craziness it was important to us to not miss all the summer fun because of the move, so we went camping for nina's birthday in july. which happened to be hazel's first REAL camping weekend!

good news is she looooved it. well, she loved playing in the dirt and swimming in the river and sitting in the camp chairs, but wasn't so into sleeping in her travel crib. and she got up at 5am. that sucked.

FAIRWELL WITHERS

goodbye Withers Street
after the movers got everything out of the apartment i went back up to do a last walkthrough. not gonna lie, it was a little emotional.

i mean, we spent five really important years in this little place. it was the first time and place either of us had moved in with someone, we got engaged, married, pregnant, and it was hazel's first home for a whole year. big stuff. big IMPORTANT stuff.

but we said our goodbyes and are focused on moving onward and upward! you were good to us brooklyn. real good.

BATHROOM UPGRADE

there were two major renovations the pink house needed - a new upstairs bathroom and a new kitchen. we started with the bathroom. this is what we were working with:

Wellesley Road

yeah. pretty rough.
so we gutted the whole thing, put new pipes in, new sink, toilet, vanity, lighting, hardware, tile and paint and here's where we landed.

still in need of hanging a curtain, but we're so happy with how light and bright it turned out. and we kept the original giant tub that's pretty much the bathtub of my dreams.
