today we're packing our bags and getting on a plane to missouri. we'll be there for two weeks spending quality time with friends and all the aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents we can fit in.
for the past five years i've carried my leica minilux around with me everywhere. unfortunately for the last while the 'ol minilux hasn't been a very good pal. i've had exposure and scanning issues and processed one bad roll after the other.
i finally decided it was time to make a change
for the past month i switched it up and used the nikon 35Ti i bought chris way back when that he never uses anymore. i'm pretty happy with the new camera!
for hazel's first thanksgiving we drove to colonial williamsburg - where his mother grew up! - to spend the holiday with chris's entire family.
it was actually a lot of fun! we stayed in a old home in the middle of town and walked through the streets, ate at the tavern, and got to see where chris's mom worked as a teenager (in costume of course).
tonight we're packing up the car and heading to virginia to spend the holiday's with chris's family. hazel's finally getting to meet all her other cousins, her great grandma and every one else on that side of the family.
this is the longest car ride we've taken with the bae and the longest we've stayed somewhere that wasn't baby-ready so we'll see how it goes! hope hazel likes sleeping in a pack and play (eeeeek)
i got rid of over 215 oz of breast milk today from our freezer. yeah. our freezer was full. the biggest bummer of the whole thing was that i tried to donate it but couldn't because of various reasons, so ALL THIS MILK went to waste. this is hours and days and months of pumping. ooof. kind of glad to just get it out of our lives and move on, but really does make me sad that someone else can't benefit from all that work.
i've been talking about starting an etsy store for years, but never felt strongly about what i would want to put out there for the world to buy.
after an epic night of dying burp cloths, swaddles and a crib sheet for hazel i realized there really wasn't much like that available in the market for babies. sure there's shibori everything, but not much baby stuff. LIGHT BULB MOMENT!
so i took some photos, picked a name and BOOM i have an etsy store that i'm pretty excited about. i'm starting with shibori baby products but will probably post other fun baby related items like knit hats, pillow letters and god knows what else.
check out Hill and Her and please please keep me in mind for expecting friends and family!
we wanted to kick off hazel's first halloween with something special that wasn't too cheesy, so after some brainstorming we came up with a luau. (my mind works in weird ways)
i used the bjorn to hold hazel facing out and made a 'platter' using cardboard, aluminum foil, fake lettuce and a flower lai. it was held up around my neck by some yarn which turned out to be great because it was so easy to get in and out of.
throw on a couple hula skirts, a wig and a ukelele and voilà! a family luau costume.
as expected, hazel did a great job hosting her first pumpkin party. the get together is easily one of my favorite traditions of the year. we spent the afternoon with friends eating gallons of chili frito pie, drank spiked cider until we couldn't anymore, and covered our deck with pumpkin guts.
sadly my trusty leica minilux punked out on me so i couldn't take pics - so this one will have to do this year.
